Ferniehirst Castle

Ferniehirst Castle was built in 1476 by Sir Thomas Kerr.  The castle lies about 1 mile south of Jedburgh just off the A68. The castle was victim to English raids over the following years.  In around 1593 it was practically demolished by James VI.  The castle was leased by the Scottish Youth Hostel association and used as a youth hostel before eventually being brought back into the Kerr family.  Ferniehirst Castle is unique in that it was designed for use by left handed people.  To find out more click here.

Firniehirst Castle is Privately owned but is open to the public via a guided tour.
